Hope Stone reaches hundreds of children a year with mindful arts education taught by passionate, seasoned professional artists in multiple disciplines. The instructors teach love, respect, self discipline, and countless other invaluable life skills while providing the highest quality instruction. The joy of a Hope Stone classroom is indescribable.
My name is Marc Hennessey, and I am an electric violinist and composer. Since 2012, I’ve had the privilege of collaborating with Hope Stone, Inc., beginning with composing a three-movement modern dance piece titled Squared Dancer for their dance company. In February 2014, we performed this piece live at the Wortham Theatre in Houston, Texas, with two shows a day over several days, reaching upwards of 500 children per performance. The audiences wer bused in from elementary schools throughout the diverse region—a testament to Hope Stone’s commitment to bringing the arts to communities that need them most. After the shows, we had a chance to greet the kids in the lobby, sharing in their joy and curiosity.
One particular performance remains vivid in my mind. I was set up downstage left with my electric violin, layering live loops for the dancers who filled the stage. As I played the intricate first movement, I noticed two young girls in the front row, arms outstretched, almost reaching toward the dancers with an expression that said, “I want to be this with all my heart.” Instantly, I was transported back to my own childhood, remembering the awe I felt during my first symphony orchestra concert on a school field trip—a feeling that shaped my path as a musician. I became so overwhelmed by the realization of what we were giving these kids that I began to cry, my vision blurring as I struggled to stay on cue.
Throughout that week, Hope Stone made all the kids feel welcome, even hosting a special performance for children with additional needs by dimming the lights, lowering the volume, and adjusting the dancers’ movements. This act of inclusivity spoke volumes about the organization’s heart and the lengths they go to ensure that the arts are accessible to everyone.
The impact of working with Hope Stone has been profound, connecting my passion for music with a service-oriented purpose that extends beyond the stage. It bridges art and service, opening doors for kids in communities where the arts may not be as visible. Over the years, I’ve returned to Houston for other performances of Squared Dancer, and I even recorded the first movement in a studio with Grammy Award-winning engineers, releasing it as “Dancer Dancer” on the album Bloom. I look forward to the possibility of creating more pieces with Hope Stone, bringing transformative experiences to new generations of young audiences.
Hope Stone, Inc. is a cornerstone of artistic outreach in Texas, giving thousands of children the opportunity to dream big and explore new horizons through the arts. It is an honor for me to be a small part of their mission.
Jane Weiner and the talented family at Hope Stone provided scholarships to my daughter and our family. My child is now in Middle School, she eats lunch alone, she doesn't have friends but she has DANCE, joy, peace and the kindest heart. At around the age of 3 my daughter started dancing. Years later she was till in classes and we attended the Music Classe ... "Hello Everybody..." Now my other daughter the popular girl is in choir. We were living in a "home" that later was destroyed by an electrical fire. Before the fire I was seperated and headed towards a painful divorce with a 3 year old and 1 1/2 year old. I was suffering in silence without a Therapist at the time; anxiety, major depressive disorder and a laundry list of trauma. Jane, thank you will never be enough to convey how you were our families village. You gave us a reason to get up and keeping going after being knocked down. I have a The photo was developed on 12.29.2011 my daughter (age 3) was at Hope Stone with Sarah and another kiddo
Hope stone provides incredible arts instruction in Houston. The teachers are all professionals- the value is unarguable. Art for all!!
Hope Stone, Inc. is a non-profit organization that unlocks creativity of young people and adults through outreach programs with a vision of ART for ALL. Hope Stone teaches and inspires art that dignifies the human experience, deepens the collective imagination, and grants us the possibilities for ourselves and our communities. This is a process that reveals the reason for and the goal of our work: HOPE.
Grace In Motion – is a collaboration created by Hope Stone, Inc. between Hope Stone, Brookdale Senior Living Residents and a selected cast of HSPVA Level II dance majors. Jane Weiner, Founder and Executive Director of Hope Stone, Inc. contacted Janie Carothers, the HSPVA Dance Chair about a project she wanted to create with the Brookdale Senior Living Residents called Grace In Motion. The project started in the spring of 2016, as an 11-week cross-generational dance class combining seniors and pre-professional teenage dancers from HSPVA.
The success of the project the first year has led Jane Weiner and Hope Stone Inc. to continue the Grace In Motion project through 2018 and to expand the multi-generational dance project in 2019 to include four-year-old students from Small Steps Nurturing Centre. This creative process and compassion developed through the interaction of the young pre-professional dancers at HSPVA and the Brookdale Seniors each season has brought a sense of giving and understanding of how the ARTS and dance can reach many people in our community.
I cannot begin to count the ways this project has affected our dancers and HSPVA Community. This non-profit is key to introducing the arts to the community and HSPVA is so lucky to be apart of this program and affiliated with HOPE Stone.
Hope Stone has been an immense resource for my family, especially my grandson Jordan, who spent many after school hours attending Hope Stone's wonderful youth classes during his junior and early senior high school years. Hope Stone helped Jordan engage with other humans and the world, gave him an option beyond electronics and solitude--he always felt he belonged at Hope Stone. He so loved the camaraderie and creativity of these acting/creating/playing/challenging activities that he once cried because he could not attend them during Summer break! My younger daughter Alina (not Jordan's mother) also matured a great deal under the dance instruction and mentoring of Hope Stone director Jane Weiner, who is truly a treasure for our city, its youth and its artists. I am always amazed by her ability to use people of all ages and ability to make interesting, fun and thoughtful art. To me Hope Stone embodies the mission of an art non-profit, it is one of Jane's mottos: "art for all." Thanks, Bennie Slavik
Hope Stone, Inc is an exceptional organization in every way. Hope Stone is driven by a committed, inspiring, forward-looking director and a passionate and talented staff. I have had the opportunity to experience Hope Stone's programming as a parent, and have seen first-hand the flight that takes place when children's wings are exposed to such rich arts education. Our world needs more art- thank you, Hope Stone, for cultivating artistry and for celebrating uniqueness and creativity.
I've always been a shy person and being in interact and doing those Improv games really helped my get through a lot of hard times. Hope Stone changed my life for the better, and I'll always remember the times that helped my through my depressing moments and made me realize the beauty in life.
Thank you Hope Stone
Hope Stone really cares about the community! Art for all is their mission and everything they do comes back to that. The last performance I attended brought together individuals from all ages including the elderly moving with high school students on stage to a young people’s drum circle to professional dancers. It was so wonderful to get a small glimpse of all the work that Hope does and the impact that they have on the community. This is one of the few arts organizations that I’ve had a chance to work with that I think truly cares about the community at large and makes every choice based off of what they can do for others and not their own ego. If you are looking for an organization to partner with or donate to or just volunteer with, I highly recommend Hope Stone. They are a company that other arts organizations should strive to model.
Hope Stone, Inc. provides quality creative and fine arts education for children and adults, especially those living in economically disadvantaged areas or experiencing difficult transitions. The tireless efforts of the teaching artists and staff - representing dance, drama, spoken word, and music - bring 21st century living skills to life and cultivate mindfulness. Every beneficiary of the Hope Stone mission - staff and clients alike - are reminded of their innate artistry, which we should nurture and never forget!
At this point in my career, after teaching mindful arts both independently and through other organizations, I have had experience with a wide array of non-profits in the arts education industry. I have been blown away by the caliber of education provided to the schools and in the classes that have contracted Hope Stone, as well as the excellent leadership and teaching tools provided to us as staff. I have gained more knowledge and awareness in my not-quite-one year with Hope Stone than I have in the previous five. I am so grateful to not only be a part of this staff, but to objectively witness the impact Hope Stone has on children in our community.
Hope Stone has the ability to not only provide accessible entertainment and arts education but they some how always are able to remind us of the value art should have in our society. Art has the ability to feed our souls and brings us closer together as a community and Hope Stone never loses sight of that.
Hope Stone, Inc's work and Jane Weiner, the Executive Director inspired and guided me in establishing a nonprofit in New Orleans. Hope Stone helped build the foundation of Upturn Arts, an arts education program for at-risk youth. Upturn Arts was established as Hope Stone New Orleans in 2010 reaching 23 students in its first year. We are continuing to grow and thrive and have reached over 500 children this year alone with low-cost arts programs. Over 50% of our students receive scholarships to attend arts education programs around the city. Hope Stone Inc was the force behind this idea and has stood beside us as we continue this journey to reach more and more youth. We share the vision to provide "Arts for All."
I don't know where to begin on how amazing Hope Stone, INC is. For the last three years, Hope Stone, Inc. has provided music and dance to my childcare center who specializes in care for children with disabilities. They have been nothing short of willing and giving to a population of children who may have never had the opportunity to share in something like this. I am so very grateful to Mrs. Jane for all that she does and I can tell you it's more than she has to do. We love Hope Stone, INC!

Hope Stone is a wonderful resource for children (of all ages) who do not normally have access to arts & performing programs. I have worked with them for several years in the Spring Branch area and they bring dance, theater and drumming to elementary students. The teachers are talented, engaging and thoughtful. The students love the programs and I look forward to working and collaborating with them for a long time to come!

I have worked with Hope Stone, Inc for many years and am always amazed by their level of professionalism and artistry. Their community based work is inspiring and life changing for those involved. Many of my students have enjoyed interning for this organization. They always come back with a great perspective on how art can change lives. The masterclasses and choreographic work provided by the professional company are artistic, unique and fun. If you have the opportunity to be involved in this organization, DO IT!
This organization is awesome!!!! The teachers are extremely positive and patient with the children. Each child is important to them and they want every child to have a great experience during each class. The children walk away with a love for the Arts and love for others as well as their selves!
Hope Stone Inc uses creativity, dance, and art to enrich the lives of people, inclusive of age and socioeconomic background. As someone who has attended a variety of events and classes over the years, I'm convinced that Hope Stone is effective and throw my full support behind them. They turn children into confident critical thinkers, and light up the brains and bodies of seniors, and pass along joy to all those encountered along the way.
As a teacher with experience working with students at Title I schools and as someone who has both worked with and seen the educators at Hope Stone in action, I find it difficult to express how meaningful their mission is for those they serve whether children in both public and charter schools, veterans and senior citizens. They provide a creative outlet for veterans to express their experiences in the military whether in active combat or in support of troops in combat. They provide multigenerational classes in dance and in theatre for young adults and for seniors to learn from one another's experiences and to find common ground and unique forms of expression. They also serve children in public schools, notably those whose populations are at-risk and underserved. In so doing, they provide these children not only with an arts education taught by professionals in the fields and at a time in which the arts struggle to receive funding in many Houston-area school districts, but, though the arts, they enable these young men and women to learn self-discipline and productive outlets for expressing emotion as well as improving their abilities to work as part of a group with others of different backgrounds and learning styles. They also learn to communicate clearly and to work mindfully and are provided with strategies and the means to process their emotions and to reduce stress, skills that are not only invaluable to school-aged children regularly assessed on the material they learn in their core classes but also to the young men and women they will grow to become.
Hope Stone is an AMAZING non-profit that has helped my son explore the arts since he was 8 years old. He's now 17 and is planning on majoring in theater in college! He has taken Hope Stone classes for years and learned from Jane Weiner and Gayla Miller about the importance of giving back: he works with them teaching seniors how to act. Their enthusiasm is contagious. There are always unique events that Hope Stone is doing -- like backpacks for underprivileged kids and drumming with Veterans. It's a wonderful organization and I'm so grateful it's been around for 20 years!

Hope Stone is such a nurturing place for artists of all ages. My 9 year old has enjoyed their fantastic free KIDS PLAY program (something we couldn't afford without the scholarship) and I have enjoyed drum lessons. Jane is passionate about the arts which inspires the children -- as do her productions on the big stage. They see her onstage and then get to leap up there themselves in their own productions. We love Hope Stone!
I had the opportunity to dance for this company for a couple shows, and it was the most rewarding experience I've had in dance. Jane Weiner has created an environment of love and acceptance that she shares with as many people as possible. This company makes dance a human experience for all, while also giving back to the community. So much love and so much light.
Hope Stone Inc is the type of non-profit we should be keeping an eye on. Their services are valuable, delivered with the best professionalism and with their help, countless families are able to make their lives better. They are also encouraging community engagement, making better neighbors out of all of us.
Hope Stone is one of the most important and truly compassionate companies I've ever learned about Houston. What Jane is directing here goes beyond mere idea and dream; she makes a difference in people's lives, not only within the arts community but beyond it, reaching families and individuals whose lives ache and yearn for change, for recognition, for help, and for celebration, especially when it comes to the wondrous and meaningful experience of human connection.
Working with Hope Stone is an enriching experience for the mind, body and soul. Hope Stone epitomizes wholehearted movement and dance; while bringing together all of our fractured lives and experiences and artfully puts the pieces together to create a unified group, individual, and dance. I look forward to working with Hope Stone every year and am blessed to have such an amazing experience.
I have been profoundly changed and inspired by Jane Weiner's dedication to outreach and her vision for “Art for All” through Hope Stone. They are not only involved with children, but all ages of the community with the latest being the drumming circle for our Veterans. It's so awesome and amazing! Art appreciation is lacking on every level in this nation and it is so refreshing to see Jane and other artists dedicated to changing that perception by changing lives through dance, art, music, and other creative avenues.
I have had the pleasure of knowing Jane and Hope Stone through my son who is a dancer. This organization not only is having a positive impact on our community, but also on those who join this team and share in her vision. She has inspired my son, and myself, to be better people, better citizens, and better assets to this world. She has shown us the intrinsic quality of expression that is realized through the creative thought process, therefore, further substantiating that art is natural, necessary, and available to all.
The best thing about Hope Stone is that it is based on a foundation of Love. Love for people and love for art. I don’t believe you can know this team or participate in one of their programs, and not walk away changed for the better. I also happen to know that it’s not all about the money. I’ve bought tickets to performances where you have the choice to pay based on what you could afford or what you chose to donate. They make it as accessible as possible so that no matter what a person’s budget may be, you can afford to participate in the experience.
I am humbled and honored to be associated with Jane Weiner and Hope Stone. They are a bright light in our community and in this world. Many thanks to Jane and Hope Stone for leading by example.
Hope Stone is an organization that really cares about and supports their community. They believe art, in all forms, is important to all persons. They have a talented staff of dedicated teachers who nurture their students and encourage creativity.
A definite thumbs-up to this great Non Profit organization.
Hope Stone has always gone above and beyond their commitment to teaching, advocating, and exposing the arts to Houstons underserved youth population.
They have enriched many minds and bodies and the outcome of such service will be unfold many times over to the benefit of all of Houston!
Thank you for your service!
Working with Hope Stone has given me MULTIPLE OPPORTUNITIES to perform original instrumental music, alongside Hope Stone's fabulous dancers, with and to thousands of ART HUNGRY CHILDREN! Hope Stone is fun, heartwarming and professional. What an amazing organization! I hope to work with them again in the future, giving art to the community!
So I had owned a Jimbe(African Drum) for about 2 yrs and had no clue how to play it. I was at a local Renaissance fair and heard the drummers at the bonfire and I threw it out to my friends. "I have owned my drum for 2 yrs and would love to know how to play it!" The next Monday I got a flyer for a Drum Circle for Veteran's sponsored by Hope Stone. I attended it and LOVE it! Jane was so enthusiastic and our teacher Chris has been GREAT! I have now done 3 semesters with them and have met some great people and have told all my Houston Veteran friends about the classes. I know it has helped me to be around such cool folks with so much enthusiasm about the foundation and for the program. I miss it and the lessons when we are on break. If this is an indication of all of their classes I am sure lots of kids are getting great services! Thank You !
I've experienced Jane's vision "Art for All" in many forms: From my granddaughter being involved with the drama classes for teens to watching the seniors at Brookdale being involved with movement and drama. Being a senior myself I watched the courage, commitment and fun these seniors were having. My granddaughter has become much more self-confident through Jane's programs. I would highly recommend getting involved with Jane Weiner wherever you can.
Once a year Eastchester High School Jazz Co dance troupe in New York, spends a weekend of dance with Jane Weiner. Jane will create a dance from her wonderful creative brain in which the dancers move, think and verbulize the subject matter. It is a learning experience for the body mind and soul. The experience is so positive that we have to turn dancers away. Hope Stone is a wonderful organization that brings dance to one and all, young or old.
Hope Stone is a non-profit organization that really cares about teaching art to people in all their walks of life. What I love the most about it is the community involvement. With Hope Stone, you really feel part of a greater family. I love the fact that it provides opportunities to children of all backgrounds and teaches them to appreciate art from early on. Hope Stone is on a mission to better our society through the use of art and creativity.

My partner and I chose Hope Stone as our beneficiary as we launched our business this year and we are so happy with this decision. Jane made an effort to come out to our launch event and speak on #artforall, invited us after to see the choreography she had been working on and is currently collaborating with us on community outreach programs that we can get involved in. Working with Hope Stone as our beneficiary is about more than donating money, it's about making a real difference and Jane is a pleasure to work with. She is truly inspiring and passionate about what she does.
This great organization, as the name implies, signifies HOPE; bringing a different perspective, style and meaning to nonprofits. Being an artist/creative, I have been able to see the harm neglecting our artistic sides can cause on personal growth. Hope Stone strives to bring out the creative geniuses in each an everyone with a vision of ARTS FOR ALL; meaning that they support a wide and diverse range of individuals. I have had the opportunity to work with this organization and I can truly say that everyone is happy, fun, encouraging and accepting. Nothing but great learning experiences from watching their shows and collaborating with them.
6 Stars : )
I have participated in Hopestone's programs for the last 4 years (HopeStone Kids and Hopestone Interact) and it has been one of the best experiences of my life. I have made so many friends, and the HopeStone staff is so welcoming and supportive. I have had so much fun, while also being pushed out of my comfort zone to participate in theater and improv activities. It has been great!
My family has been involved in Hope Stone's classes and has attended performances for the last ten years or so. It is one of my absolute favorite non-profits and art organizations. People, and especially children, of all ages and ability levels are warmly welcomed and experience the joy of movement, rhythm, music, and performing, and not in a simplistic, cookie-cutter way: it's real, original art they're doing!. Participants reflect the vast diversity of our city-- economically, ethnically, geographically, and age and ability-wise. My daughter's life has been so enriched by being part of these programs. Having worked in the non-profit world, I am also in awe of how much Hope Stone accomplishes on a limited budget. Better fiscal management would be impossible to find.

My children have participated in the Hope Stone Kids program for about five years now, and I've attended several Hope Stone professional performances. I have to say, if I were reading these glowing reviews I'd be skeptical, but I'm about to write one of them! The Kids program is a place that works hard to attract kids of all kinds: the ones who are great at dance and music, the ones who aren't (but who want to participate); the ones who are wealthy, and the ones who aren't; all races, all political parties, girls AND boys. It makes performance art fun for kids, without pressure, while teaching them important fundamentals, how to work as a team, and all those other lessons we parents want our kids to learn. They also provide great role models of adults who are artists or active in the arts: people who are thoughtful, respectful, creative, and contributing to our community. As an adult, I value the unique classes available for adults-- hard to find this level of quality on an a la carte basis anywhere else. And I want to praise the professional company as well. As an outsider to the arts world, I've sometimes felt intimidated or uniformed at some other groups' performances: I didn't get it, and no one would explain. When Hope Stone performs, I may not always get it, or see it the same way my neighbor did, but somehow, my interpretation of what I saw is Okay. I'm always entertained by the programs, exposed to new ideas, and never, ever bored. It's a huge asset to Houston to be able to see affordable, cutting-edge work like this. I've been around Hope Stone enough to know that they are always on a shoestring budget, and there's never enough money for what are reasonable needs, let alone the big dreams of the staff and board of directors. If you're looking for an arts organization worthy of support, this is it!
While volunteering my services with Hope Stone I grew to learn more about myself through the experiences of the children with The Branch. They're opportunity to learn music and dance was very beneficial. The minds of these bright youth showed more potential then I as a teaching assistant could hang with. These kids were excelling beyond the general standard showing great retentive skills as well as communal skill. Working with the kids I myself learned how to better communicate even the most basic of things to the brightest of minds, a rock has just as much potential as a star it just needs to be harnessed and refined properly so that it may molded or converted into the next state of energy. We as humans are bundles of potential energy that just need the proper guiding with the reading and counting skills, to be more than successful. Success is a mind state as a wealth of knowledge helps provide a great pool of references for such. These molds we form only break the scale of things just to remold into new models, each of these children taught were bright in their own aspect and just needs a bit of team work and development skills to understand that. We all cater to the needs of each other hence you can never have a community with the innate part of unity!
Hope Stone Inc. is one of the most incredible group of people I've ever met. The mission of "mindful arts education" is not a common one, and their dedication to going above and beyond a typical, cookie-cutter teaching style is apparent. You can see the children's hearts being opened and artistic voices being amplified.
HopeStone cares about the children their teaching and seeks to be more than just an educational program. They seek to enrich kids' lives.
They want to give kids lessons that build character, intuition, and confidence so they can one day stand and be proud of who they are.
Hope Stone is an amazing organization run by incredibly passionate artists that are committed to making an impact on the lives of others. I have had the opportunity over the last semester to observe the work that they do and have been so inspired by both the talent and kindness that is brought to every class.
Hope Stone brought the drumming class to the Homeless Veterans program at U.S.VETS and it has been the most favorite group yet. I personally appreciate the love and dedication this team has shown our veterans and am so happy to work with them. They bring a light to this world that is needed.
For the past two years, Jane and her staff have been coming every Monday afternoon to our Enrichment Program for at risk elementary children. The goal of Hope Stone's dance/creative movement program is to stimulate the minds of our children with a mixture of dance, music and memory. Jane pours herself into this program and the children. It has been both a privilege and inspiring to witness her serving these young children!
Such an amazing group. Jane and the rest of the crew are committed to making the arts available for everyone--from preschoolers to seniors.
I have been going their ever sence I was little I was in their creative movement class, their drama class, their drumming class and their interact class. I have one memory from get last year I was in hope stone kids where I was back stage wating to go on when I look Behinde me a one of my best freinds is napping I latter teased him about it but I thought it was so cool that every one could be that calm.
Hope Stone is an awesome group of people who care about all the art of the world but their favorite is dance and dance outreach. Jane Weiner is a saint!!! She bonds with everyone she comes in contact with. She is an incredible woman who deserves to be acknowledged.
Hope Stone has taught me so much from dance, singing, acting, and even some life lessons. I have recently started working in the intoract class and I love it!!!
I began working as a teaching artist as soon as I could after meeting the President & CEO, Jane Weiner. Her care of people radiates throughout this organization and is what motivates her to provide arts education for underserved populations. I teach Hope Stone's intergenerational theatre class, which has been a resounding success, with both teenagers and senior citizens saying it is the highlight of their week.

Hope Stone has a very important mission. They want to ensure that all groups in our community have art available to them in some form. My family became involved with this organization when my son was quite young. As he grew, we used and participated in different services. Most recently he worked in a group that brought teenagers and the elderly together for theater.
I can't even begin to express the passion that everyone involved with this organization has. Their vision and leadership are something to be admired and supported. Jane Weiner and her team add so much to our community on a daily basis. It has been our pleasure to have had the opportunity to support the organization.
I would like to give a review for Hope Stone! My daughter has been a part of their programming for many years from music, to dance, to theatre. By far, her involvement with this organization has been one of her most profound yet. I am constantly delighted with the creativity and ingenuity the classes manifest. Hope Stone has been a source of deep challenges and transformation for Lily. She always looks forward to being a part of the magic when a new opportunity arises.
Jane's vision for the company continues to be an inspiration and an asset for Houston. There is truly nothing else like this group.
I can't recommend Hope Stone enough. I encourage anyone and everyone to get involved with this gem.
I have been a dancer and teacher with Hopestone for the past five years.
I am currently teach special populations for Hopestone including underserved, homeless and disabled.
Art teaches compassion, critical thinking, confidence, creativity, focus, perseverance, how to receive constructive feedback, collaboration, dedication and accountability. I see this overall growth of my students throughout the year.
The reach of the Hopestone organization is vast and is continually growing. The dedication to quality teaching is of utmost importance and teachers are given the necessary tools to excel.
This organization is always striving to evolve in order to give art to all.
I am new to Houston but have heard about Hope Stone's work to bring art to the underserved for a while. This company is thinking "out of the box" to find more ways that art can bring joy, heal and help people evolve! I'm truly honored to know the artists involved and am inspired by their work!
I have been involved with Hope Stone for over 3 years. This organization has a terrific vision and offers first rate programs. There CEO and staff operate with the highest levels of integrity. The ongoing outreach to bring art to those without access has been something to watch and be a part of. If you attend any Hope Stone event you will see children and adults transformed before your eyes.
I cannot say enough about how great this organization is and the wonderful things they bring to our children! The instructors are so loving and caring!! They take time to warm the hearts of all the children they come in contact with on a weekly basis!! Wednesdays are our favorite days!!! We love Hope Stone!! Thanks for bringing the ARTS to our fabulous children at Generation One!!!!
We have had a wonderful partnership with Hope Stone for several years. It has been a great experience. From the administration to the teachers, it has been a pleasure to work with them. They are flexible and attentive to any ideas and suggestions. Aside from those positive things, their program is of great benefit to the children they serve in our program. Our children grow in many ways through the enrichment they receive through the Hope Stone program.
It is truly amazing the importance of non-profit art programs in the overall education process for society today. I am continually in awe of the outreach and the profound success Hope Stone brings to children whom have had art programs completely removed from their educational programs. This success is what has inspired me to stay involved with the program. Our children have grown up with this program and have gone on to give back by working with the amazing professional teaching staff in the classrooms today.
Hope Stone is one of the most visible and effective dance and art outreach programs for all ages in Houston! We heard about Hope Stone not long after we moved to Houston, and we heard of and witnessed the impact that they had on the community as a whole! Besides outreach, social dance lessons were offered, of which I have taken Salsa and Waltz... the only two dance classes I've ever taken. On top of that, the Hope Stone dance company introduced me to some of the most fun and innovative dancers and choreographers in the area. I can honestly say that Hope Stone has been one of the things I like most about Houston, and I know I'm not the only one who feels this way!
My three children attended " Kid's Play " a performance program at Hope Stone for about 4 years. The level of commitment and talent Hope Stone's staff brought to my children and their peers was a important support the children needed. It was difficult to say goodbye when we moved out of Houston!

Hopestone is a organization that believes in art for all.
I am a strong believer that all should have the opportunity to heal, learn and grow through art. Hopestone is an organization that has allowed me to share and teach dance to others. In the process I have found that when people are finished with the dance class they are excited that they have the opportunity to dance, express themselves and learn. Usually they express to me that they are glad that dance classes exist and that they try to go to gyms and work out but it doesn't feel as good for the body.
Children in my experience have the same experience., minus the gym part They enjoy the creative choices in a structured environment. I have seen growth and joy from big to smalll!
Everyone progresses at their own rate and all victories are celebrated and acknowledged in this art and dance organization. This I find is different from any other of its kind in Houston.

I moved back to Houston with the intention of moving to New York City after I saved up some money. On my journey I needed to keep my dancing skills intact and found Hopestone. I started by taking class, then I started to volunteer, then I was asked to help with the childerns programs, then I was asked to be a company member and teach technique class.
Not only do I have the opportunity to change lives through dance in Houston but I have found a place that has allowed me to do so with such ease.
I currently have no intention on moving and look forward to growing with and in this community called Hopestone.
Hope Stone Inc is such a wonderful non-profit organization. The kids program is just one of the many ways they teach humans about art and how art is beneficial for the soul. Hope stone has taught me to be a better dancer and learn how to love the art in our everyday existence.
A dynamic organization that continues to push art to the forefront. Inspiring, creative and a community gem.

Hope Stone is an amazing organization, bringing the arts to at-risk youth through a dynamic program called Kids Play. A year-long drumming, theater and creative movement class, kids explore, grow, gain confidence, learn to work together and ooze creativity. In addition, scholarships are given to many kids in town to take various arts classes. Finally, Hope Stone Dance Company is the toast of Houston's modern dance scene and opens up hundreds of seats to at-risk kids for their performances. Jane Weiner is a phenomenal visionary, promoting that art not only heals, but is necessary for a healthy and vibrant life.
I became an intern at Hope Stone right after I graduated from college and moved to Houston 2 years ago. At this time I did not have a job yet in the Houston area, but I knew Hope offered a welcoming start to jump into the Houston arts community. It is a place I can go to take class; to continue growing as an artist, to come back to my center, and to be with others who share my love for learning about movement. Jane has had a huge impact on my dance education since college. She and the entire Hope Stone staff have such a generous, genuine, and positive energy. One of the most positive programs that this organization has in effect is HopeWerks; a residency program that allows young and growing artists the opportunity to use the space for artistic creation and production. I have been a part of 2 HopeWerks so far and have applied for the opportunity to have my own residency. Hope Stone is definitely an asset to the Houston arts community. It is one of the few organizations in Houston in which I have felt at home.
I have watched this wonderful non profit Hope Stone Inc. from its birth and Jane Weiner make it happen with all of her heart and soul. It's been a journey and hard hard hard work on her part and all who are involved. I love the company and what it stands for and the things that it does for this community. It's just what it says it is. HOPE for the community and all who enter it's doors. The best of the Best.
I started going to Hope Stone about a year ago right after graduating from college and joined the company. The classes offered are great and I always fall in love with all the instructors. Not only the classes and instructors are great, the staff at Hope Stone are very nice and friendly as well. Overall, this place is full of love and warm people. Going to the Hope studio is now a part of my daily routine. I can't start a day without taking a class there.
My six-year-old son started taking kids yoga and creative movement last fall and he absolutely loves it. The teachers are top notch. They are kind and friendly and respectful of the children. They also are constantly encouraging the kids in fun ways to reach beyond what they thought they could do physically and artistically. We are so happy at Hope Stone!
I have been a believer and supporter in Hope Stone for many years. My children and I have all enjoyed classes at Hope Stone. Jane Wiener's internal sunlight and incredible enthusiasm for bringing the arts back into childrens' and adults' lives is unmatched. As well as the classes, Hope Stone takes classes to schools that do not provide art in any way. Hope Stone also has an amazing dance company which performs throughout the year. My kids and I LOVE going to their shows because they all have a "Jane flair" that is sure to fill you with joy. Helping Hope Stone in anyway is an honor and gives me pure joy! I will always support Hope Stone.
Hope Stone not only fills our lives with art through wonderful performances and classes for both children and adults, but provides a to go place for the former dancer who enjoys working out in a caring, loving, easy going, welcoming, always improving environment like their's.

I first started taking class at HopeStone a few years ago participating in the adult dance program, I was immediately impress by the level of their instructors and the welcoming atmosphere. A year ago I had to go through foot surgery and was unable to dance for a while, Jane suggested a few classes a could participate on with a cast on my foot that would help me stay in shape and aid my recovery, I loved the classes and I have kept coming back to them in addition to ballet now. The diversity and quality of the classes offered is again impressive. On the other hand the wonderful job they do with the children and with their performing company is what every city needs to keep the arts alive and thriving.
I have found Hope Stone, Inc., to be the most careing, encouraging, creative and exhilerating organization for children through adults in dance, yogo, music and appreciating the arts in general ,of any other non-profit of its type.
The professional staff gives personal, hands on, teaching to each participant in every program. The afterschool programs for "children at risk" teaches them responsibility along with the arts: dancing, drums, theater and exercise. Each year this group is provided the opportunity to see live theater, free! Many times it's their only experience visiting a theater, seeing a live performance and then talking about it's impact on them after.
Please recognize this Outstanding Organization.

Hope Stone still has a very special place in my heart. Jane Weiner believed in my artistry and her willingness to offer me a number of opportunities proved to impact my confidence that still positively affects my creative career today. Hope Stone was most definitely my dance home in a number of ways and I know I would still feel the warmth of home if I were to visit even many years later. It was a safe and joyful place I was able to explore parts of myself, my artistry and my talents.
Thank you Hope Stone for your lasting impact!
Great people doing great things for our community! I have been personally associated with Hopestone since its inception and have seen so much good come from this organization.
It is hard to find only a few words to describe the awesome force that is Hope Stone, Inc. From the moment I stepped into the studio with the Hope Stone Family, I knew that I too had come home. From the smell of freshly made coffee to the laughter of children ages 2-92, there is never an uninspired moment in this amazing space.
I was welcomed into the Hopestone fold with loving, open arms and made to feel at home right away. I am a musical accompanist for modern and improv dance classes at Hopestone for both children and adults, and have recently joined the teaching staff. Jane Weiner sets an incredible tone of inclusiveness and participation in what goes on at Hopestone, whether it be novice adult dancers, or children learning drums, theatre, or dance.
As a lover of modern dance, I was a regular at Hope Stone while still living in Houston. I might be completely biased because of the supportive community of Hope Stone or it might be the talent that exudes from every single one of the company members – past and present – including the artistic director. Nonetheless, I am a huge believer of all that Hope Stone stands for: from creative movement for children to teaching young adults to create and express via art. Art of Hope Stone. Art of the Earth. Art for all.
A place where 45 year old moms can dance ballet or modern with some of the most amazing dancers in the city... and feel at home. An organization that is bringing art, via dance, movement, and music to disadvantaged kids in the greater Houston area. A modern dance company with awesome talent year in and year out. Hope Stone Inc. is a true gem in the state of Texas!
Hopestone is a wonderful place that cares about the community and kids. They offer scholarships to kiss that can not afford their program, ensuring that all children have access to the arts.
This organization's ability to create community through the arts is amazing! Hope Stone Kids nourishes the needs of children through arts education. Cultivating Creative Thinkers in all parts of our city. I know young adults who took class throughout their childhood and continue to take class and volunteer at Hope Center. This is a very special organization this is changing the way we value arts education.

I serve as a teacher, student, stage manager and superfan of Hope Stone. Everyone is accepted there. The kids are learning peace and humanity through arts discipline. It's beautiful to watch. The Company of dancers are amazing people and artists. Jane Weiner is a powerful force of GOOD. The board of directors have a vision that serves our community through enriching us with new performances and growing new artists that will be balanced and peaceful people.
Hope Stone is a home for art and people and community. It is a family full of boundless creativity and love. Everyone is welcome and there is such a positive energy radiating from the place.
I was lucky enough to work as an intern with Hope Stone for two summers. During the year, I participated in dance classes there. All of my experiences there were really valuable and the family and home I got out of it is life-changing. I'm so grateful. Hope Stone's passion for the arts is golden.
I worked with Hopestone as an intern during the summer of 2012. This was my second summer interning at the studio, and just as the summer before, I had a blast!! I love the atmosphere at Hopestone. I always feel at home there, and I love interacting with the dancers and the teachers. Hopestone attracts all types of dancers from professionals to students who are brand-new to the art form, and Hopestone provides an environment in which dancers from all over the experience spectrum can come to be challenged as well as nurtured technically and artistically. I love it, and I would recommend this studio to everyone from the seasoned professional to the first-time student!
As a professional dancer I first met Jane, Hope Stone's CEO, on a master class while attending Houston Community College. Since then I became a regular client, taking modern classes from her and getting to know more about the organization. One thing led to another and I found myself teaching at her children's program and as part of her staff at the Hope Stone Kids program, a program designed to make arts education as a priority in kids of all ages lives. 7 years later and I can proudly say that I am a part of Hope Stone's vision to educate our young citizens to problem solve, to have compassion, to learn to socialize, to accept one another, to listen, to trust, to respect and be respected and to share. All that through music, dance, theater, writing, photography, art. As a professional artist and a teacher, I hope to see many more programs like this in schools and community centers all over the country.

It is impossible not to believe in arts education when you are involved with Hope Stone. We see everyday how dance, music and theater make a difference in a child's life. This is a great organization that educates and empowers children and teenagers through art. The whole staff is very commited to every child and very competent and entusiastic! In order to reach more children with this program funding is extremely important and necessary.
YES Prep was the fortunate and grateful recipient of a grant that allowed us to bring a Hope Stone dance teacher to our middle school campus for a series of eight master classes. Students were selected based on their indicated interest in dance, and they participated in the weekly workshops with Roberta, a professional dancer. Her positive spirit and patience helped some of the less-confident students blossom and made all feel comfortable expressing themselves through movement. She and Hope Stone's CEO (Jane) were proactive troubleshooters who wanted to make sure all students had a meaningful experience -- even those who were reluctant at first. I appreciate this opportunity, and I hope our paths cross again.
Review from Guidestar
As a busy professional who seeks refuge in dance, I cannot say enough positive things about Hope Stone. The teachers are top-notch and unlike other adult dance classes, there is an emphasis on technique. Jane Weiner has boundless energy, which she devotes to making art, sharing art, teaching art, and just making this world a better place. If you, or anyone you know, has any interest in dance, Hope Stone is the place to get your dance on!

I have studied dance for many years in different countries and cities in the U.S., and Hope Stone is one of the most welcoming and supportive studios I have had the pleasure of being involved with. It is also the only place I have studied ballet as an adult where we are taught all aspects of technique, and the classes are not simply a means to generate revenue. I have also had the honor of working with Jane on the Illuminations Project, and have witnessed how her enthusiasm and dedication motivate others to get involved and volunteer. Jane is an inspiration, and Hope Stone a home for those of us impassioned by dance.
I moved to Houston 4 years ago, and had lost all hope of finding a place where I could go back to my dancing and find an art-dance community with which I could be involved. I went for a class at Hope Stone and realized that that was it! The place is open, full of generous people and a great sense of community that take art and art education seriously. My 17 year-old son is part of the Youth Sound at Hope Stone and I couldn't be happier for him, as I see that he has also found a place to exchange and learn and grow in his artistic expression. I have volunteered for events and at the studio and I feel privileged to be able to help in some way.
It is the people that make a place special and Hope Stone is extremely special! "Heart" is a word that comes out in any conversation with folks who volunteer, work, attend classes, or raise funds for this organization. Ana Trevino Godfrey and her Prelude Music class is a joyful, upbeat, fun experience. Your child (and you) will leave each week already looking forward to the next session. Not only is she talented & a terrific teacher, she - like the rest of the staff at Stone Hope, is simply an inspiration.
The variety and number of classes offered at Hope Stone makes it a little unusual for an organization of its size. While a dance studio and dance company, dance is not the sole focus of classes for people of all ages. If I had children, I'd send them here---and I've recommended people with children to check it out. The dance company is among the best performances companies in Houston, offering thoughtful and often quirky work to entertain and provoke thought. Much of what they do is done with an eye toward humanitarian concerns. Browse their website and checkout anything they offer that catches your eye. Children to adults can find something at Hope Stone.
This place isn't glitzy and perfect - the parking could be better, studio could be larger... But it has a big heart and brilliantly serves a diverse clientele. Jane and her crew work tirelessly - whether it's class offerings or dance performances - they keep things fresh which can be hard to do when you've been around for a while. What keeps me going back to their adult classes time after time is the commitment to quality and ability to attract world-class teachers and musicians. Thanks Hope Stone for being a sanctuary for the soul and a "chapel of the arts."

Hope Stone Inc's 3-fold mission has something for everyone. There are classes for adults, teens, and kids with scholarship opportunities. There are dance performances that help raise funds, promote causes, and raise the level and diversity of the arts in Houston. And finally, the arts outreach programs for at risk youth. As a frequenter of their adult classes, you can't beat the quality of their teachers paired with the laidback and welcoming vibes. Jane's really given Houston and the arts community quite a gift!
New to Houston and a recent grad, I came to Hope Stone to continue dancing and because I was intrigued by their service-minded mission. The strong sense of community at Hope Stone welcomed me instantly and the teachers and other dancers invigorated me artistically. Before long, I became a volunteer, helping with administrative tasks once a week and occasionally staffing events. I love Hope Stone's unique model that puts outreach and service at the heart of its mission yet still maintains an outstanding class schedule and professional company. Hope Stone showed me that amazing work can be done when you use your passions to address real needs, and I know they are instilling this kind of purposefulness in the life of every person who walks through their doors.
I moved back to Houston 2 years ago and found my home at Hope Stone. It is not often that I can recommend both beginners and professionals to the same studio but this is the case with Hope Stone as they have an incredible teaching staff tha is able to teach all levels. Their resident professional dance company Hope Stone Dance presents work of the highest caliber every season and their children's and Teen Programs are constantly producing great young talent! Do yourself a huge favor and find out more about Hope Stone, you'll be glad you did!
I recently joined the community at Hope Stone as a New Year's resolution for 2012. I was impressed to be around such a diverse group where the positivity flows all around this quaint little space. I had decided to go back to a part time hobby of mine after not getting tondo it for 8 years as I put myself through college and started a family. I was quite tense and nervous. I knew I would be rusty and behind for a while, therefore not enjoying it as much because that's just the way it is for me. I was happy to see all types there. From professionals to average people, and very young to very old. I decided to try out an intro ballet class and felt so happy to see much older women dancing much better than I and living their life to the fullest. It is neat to watch the professionals in their element and dance alongside them. It has been a place for me to meet like minded people who dance for dance sake and just live to move their bodies in expression. I am a very recluse person right now. I have two young children and i am a stay at home mom and I don't hire help because you just can't trust people these days. I have found a safe place in Hope Stone and feel like a part of something again. The owner, Jane Weiner, has a comradery with her staff and every person that walks in her path can feel the impact of her heart. She truly has a vision and empowers others to experience what the arts can do for the integrity of the human experience.
I first started coming to HopeStone in 2009, and I immediately felt like I was home. The atmosphere is incredibly warm and welcoming. Everyone is generous and the HopeStone is always filled with good energy. The adult classes are top notch, and the children's classes are the perfect blend of education and inspiration. Everyday that I walk into HopeStone studios, I welcome the creative awakening that is sure to come from the HopeStone experience!
I take classes in the adult ballet program at Hope Stone. The organization provides first-rate instruction that is on par with what Houston Ballet offers through its adult program and I am happy to support it by taking class there and making the occasional donation. It's the programs for children and youth, though, that really set Hope apart. While waiting for my own class to begin, I've been able to listen in on some of the youth classes. What they are getting from those programs cannot be measured. The philosophy is that everyone is entitled to experience art, and Hope makes it happen.
I work with a Girl Scout troop in Houston's Third Ward and Hope Stone graciously came to our rescue when we were working on some dancing skills. They were delightful to work with coordinating the scheduling of the meeting, and then an absolute joy on the "big day!" Our little girls, for those moments, felt like true dancers. It was something I will never forget. Thank you Jane, Roberta, and Hope Stone!
I grew up in a small town an hour south of Houston and never experienced dance until I turned 19...by that time I had long left Texas and began a life that would not until March 2012 bring me back to my home state. Now a resident of Houston and an artist I am experiencing the city in a whole new way. When I walked into Hope Stone I immediately knew that I had found an arts organization that provided exceptional studio space/ classes that I could call HOME. I've been in many different studios and Hope Stone by far stands out as one of the most unique, innovative, supportive, progressive and loving educational arts organizations I've had the honor to attend and be deeply affected by.
Three of my children attended Hope Stone last year and loved it! They have s great variety of classes and wonderful teachers. It was such a wonderful experience for them. Unfortunately we live far from the studio and since the classes for my childrens ages fall on different days of the week only or oldest returned this year for Youth Sound. That being said my 13 year old son absolutely looks forward to class every week!
My 11 1/2 year old daughter has had a great experience. Hope Stone has helped build her confidence, she's made friends she wouldn't have made elsewhere and she's developing mentored relationships with a variety of adults. While the program itself is age appropriate and process oriented, the final performance is very polished. I feel my daughter has learned a lot about behaving professionally in a supportive and inclusive environment. We couldn't afford this without the scholarship. Hope Stone is a great resources for the community and a great community to be a part of.
I am a dancer, choreographer and dance teacher. My son has been a part of Hope Stone Kids for two years and loves it. He actually wants to go to class. The teachers are warm and genuinely interested in him a a performer and as a person. Hopestone teaches children to find their own talent and love of art instead of trying to be cookie-cutouts of everyone else. My son is a bit shy and they have fostered his love of singing and acting and helped him do his first performance. We would not go anywhere else.
These reviews look totally fake. Almost all of the 90 reviews to date were posted in a month, back in 2010. Fifty three of them were posted in 5 days! But there's been nothing recent. So someone from the owner sat in front of the computer everyday and posted bogus, glowing reviews? Is this place good, or should I stay away. I'm totally suspicious at this point

Our class listings can be found under "class schedule" on our home page at www.hopestoneinc.org. - Amy Pearl, Managing Director
My daughter took classes at Hope Stone for nearly four years, and received a scholarship each year. She was treated with respect and love, and thoroughly enjoyed every moment. Not only did her self-esteem and appreciation for art grow, but she developed an awareness of the importance of diversity. The staff are amazing, as is the leadership. I definitely recommend Hope Stone to those searching for an opportunity to unleash the "hidden artist" in us all.
My four daughters ages 2 through 8 have taken creative movement classes at Hope Stone. We continue our patronage there because it's proved a great foundation for beginning dance. From the director to the instructors to the receptionist, the staff is courteous and professional.
Some of my students have been enrolled in Hope Stone's Kids Play. Each one was received with love, patience, and a gentle understanding. I wish that more parents would take the time to seek out this program, take the time to drive their child twice a week, take time to invest in the arts as a lifeline for their kids. The Hope Stone experience is unparalleled in our area.
Love, love, love Hope Stone. From Jane and her awesome awesome professional company and the creative and community impact they have, to the outreach program where every kid can express themselves and grow astoundingly, safe from the crazy world...I have been involved with it all, and every moment has been life-altering in it's loveliness. I wish I could always live in the Houston area so that I could continue to work for such an amazing organization! Merci, Hope Stone! You're the best, and I'll carry you with me always!
My child attends Hope Stone on scholarship and absolutely loves it! I hear geat positive feedback and am very thankful and please with Hope Stone. One of the acutal comments is " I can be myself, I don't have to act ghetto. I can talk and be comfortable". Wow, what a great testomonial!
Hope Stone loves getting its hands dirty in the community, spreading arts appreciation and fun for children of all ages. I thoroughly loved participating in their programs and continue to do so whenever I can. Their name could not be more apt - they bring hope and joy, and they have a groundedness and stability that makes everyone feel accepted and valued.
When I first started coming to Hope Stone to take dance classes, I immediatly felt welcome and accepted. As well as feeling free to grow and be challeneged in my artistic abilities. The teachers at Hope Center are very knowledgeable, professional, and each have unique teaching styles; which I think is very important for artistic growth and diversity. After being a student at Hope Center for a couple years, I then became an intern, which was a huge blessing. Not only because I was able to take classes for free in exchange, but I was also able to be a part, in a small way, of Jane's vision and mission of Hope Stone. Hope Center is not only reaching teens/adults with there amazing classes, but also at risk children, and the Houston community and beyond. It is a multifaceted organization and I am so thankful that it is a part of my life!
Hope Stone is a remarkable place. Upon entering the studio, the creative energy is palpable. Jane Weiner, the director,is a rare and unique talent. Not only is she an innovative choreographer, she is also an exceptionally gifted teacher and a truly generous spirit with an enduring commitment to the arts and their ability to cultivate peace and humanity in the world . Her capacity to inspire others, especially young people is tremendous. The kid's classes provide a joyful and supportive environment where kids can express themselves, explore their own creativity and collaborate with others. Everyone at Hope Stone has been wonderful. I feel very fortunate that both my daughter and I have the opportunity to learn from professional artists who are so passionate and dedicated.
Hope Stone has been a fantastic resource and an important part of my three kids' lives. Dance, dramatic expression, music, photography -- for years, at various times, my kids have grown and been immeasurably enriched with the outstanding programs provided by Jane Weiner and her dedicated staff. The cost? Zero. The value? Priceless. Houston without Hope Stone would be a city without a soul.
Hope stone and Jane weiner are the best thing that has happen to Houston . Look at all the young people she helps to give a purpose and confidence. There are many sides to Hope Stone. We need to multiple Jane and Hope Stone 10 times over!!!!!'
Hope Stone has been a part of our family for four years. It has been a loving place where our daughter feels safe, is free to learn, is inspired and has grown. The dancers, teachers, and staff are passionate about their work. They all love dance and music. Their work environment feels like a home where people and art are always welcomed and nurtured. I think the world of Artistic Director, Jane Weiner and her company. Truly, an inspirational place.
I have been involved with Hope Stone for many years. This is an extraordinary organization run by an extraordinary group of people. They continue to help me in so many ways, physically, emotionally, spiritually. They embrace and welcome everyone into their family.
It is not often that one finds a company that so clearly gives back more than it is given, but Hope Stone unmistakably rises to the top of this list. I have had the privilege of spending countless hours each week working with Jane and her company over the last few years, and in many ways they have essentially become like a second family to me. The experience of creating art with a group so genuinely dedicated to their work and to each other has not only redefined my ideas of what is important in life, but I also believe that everyone who walks though those doors cannot avoid taking with them some part of the Hope Stone essence of love, support, and cohesiveness, and spreading it to others when they leave the studio. Jane and her company continue to create amazing dance and art, and beyond this provide an incredible outreach program that has so obviously impacted the lives of countless children, many of whom are at-risk. Hope Stone is unique in its selfless mission to instill a love of music, dance, and art, as well as to nurture creativity and expressiveness.
Jane Weiner and Hope Stone are the authentic deal! They never stop challenging the limitless boundaries of the expressive arts and the creativity that resides in all children. Each week our children join Jane and the other exceptional teachers in understanding and expressing themselves in new and wonderful ways. What is especially inspiring is that Hope Stone is available to all children. As a result, we all benefit from the unique contribution that Hope Stone provides to our community.
I had absolutely no dance experience when Jane opened her doors at Hope Stone to me. I remember being so nervous before the first class but as soon as the class began and the live drums started I was having so much fun. My confidence built up stronger and stronger and I felt so welcomed and happy. The atmosphere was calming the teachers were so kind and helpful. Soon I stepped with pride across the floor. Jane and her crew raise inspiration and energy in each person they reach. As the move from person to person they truly help the world become a better place.
Hope Stone is a lovely place. It's so artsy and friendly-everybody knows eachother. Jane is so cool for starting it and the teachers are very nice and helpful. I hadn't done dance since kindergarden, but I'm glad I started it up with Hope Stone. I love it! I've really learned a lot.
My 15 year old daughter was hesitant to sign up for a dance class even though she was very interested because she felt it was "too late" to learn. Someone told us about Hopestone teen "Kids Play" program. She started in August and has had an incredible experience. All the teachers (dance, yoga, theater and drumming) have been very positive and encouraging. I have seen my daughter's confidence and comfort level rise dramatically from the start of this experience and I'd like to thank Jane and all the staff at Hopestone for their fabulous guidance!
Hope Stone is the premier art experience in Houston... from their fantastic professional dance company and the performances they produce, to the movement, fitness, and music classes they offer to all ages, AND to their fantastic community outreach programs. What is unique about Hope Stone is that all of the above fit together like a masterful tapestry... one is not more important than the other, and Jane Weiner brilliantly maintains the vibrancy of each piece while educating the community about the necessity of art in our niche and the world at large. Follow this company, and enrich your life through art.
What Jane Weiner does at Hopestone is absolutely mind-boggling. I am both a part time teacher and a student at this facility and I am constantly urging others to become students there. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming with kids, dogs, beginner to advanced dancers, fabulous musicians, all mingling togther in an atmosphere of art and dance and joy for life. They have an ongoing roster of spectacular guest teachers they are able to get in there which I believe speaks very highly of the caliber of the work they do there.
My daughter was interested in taking a group photography class. I was looking for one that was reasonable and community based. Hope Stone offered us that and more! Hope Stone even offered digital cameras for the kids to borrow, if needed, for the duration of the class. The classes were in-depth and covered famous photographers like Ansel Adams and took field trips to the sculpture gardens, the zoo and a dance performance downtown. They provide scholarships to their students because they believe with incredible devotion and commitment that the arts should and can be available to all kids regardless of financial barriers. So inspiring! And I say this in all honesty, there is no one else in Houston (4th largest city in US) offering group photography classes for kids. Just google it yourself and you will see. The varied kinds of classes and opportunities they offer kids and their families is unparalleled and getting this award for the 2010 Great Nonprofits Arts Appreciation Campaign is so absolutely deserved. This organization moves mountains one (hope)stone at a time.
I have been involved in the dance world all of my life, as a dance student growing up, as a professional dancer in my twenties and thirties, as a dance teacher for the past 28 years, and as the mother of a daughter who is passionate about dance. The Hope Stone is beyond doubt the most nurturing, optimistic dance environment I have ever encountered. As a mother, I deeply appreciate the love that permeates the space and envelopes the children. As an aging dance teacher who rarely finds time to take a ballet class, I am grateful for the smiling, non-judgemental welcome that I have always received from the superb teaching staff. As a community member, I am blown away by the generosity and scope of Hope Stone's outreach. The entire project operates from the premise that all humans are artists, and all artists deserve nurturing.
Hope Stone is a unique nonprofit that serves the community through the arts. With dance as the major element it provides access to our inner mind and outer being. Our lives will not be rich without the arts as the arts enrich our everyday. Hope Stone gives the community young and old a unique way to celebrate our lives.
I am an arts professional. I am a not a dancer or a choreographer but am a passionate and knowledgeable supporter of contemporary dance. I travel widely and work with performing arts organizations around the United States and abroad.
My eight year old son is now in his third year at Hope Stone. Jane and her staff are extraordinary professionals - the consistency with which they treat the children (kindness, gentleness, clear guidance) is unwavering. I can see in my son the confidence he has engendered by being a member of this troupe. The grant-making institutions that support this enterprise should be commended for their crucial financial support. Hope Stone delivers the goods!
I love Hope Stone - it truly is a Chapel of the Arts! The teachers they bring in are top notch and the atmosphere is so calm, vibrant and up-lifting you can't help have fun. Jane and crew really know how to run a Studio (Chapel) well!!!
I have been a beginner ballet student at Hope Stone. The teachers care about your progress and Hope Stone brings the creme de la creme of ballet dancers to teach. It is such an honor to be in their presence and help those that may not be quite on the same level they are, ballet-wise. I attended a performance in October 2009 of Hope Stone Dance Company and was blown away by the incredible choreography, the thought behind such a magical work of art and feel extremely fortunate to have Jane Weiner amongst our artists in Houston. One of the best parts is the generosity of giving 800 Houston-area children the opportunity to attend at no cost and to introduce & enrich their lives with great art. I am extremely honored to be on the Board of Directors of Hope Stone, Inc., and am impressed with the detail, thought and enthusiasm that goes into everything they do. Jane and Hope Stone garner the highest respect amongst peers and the community in Houston and it is apparent with the dedication of its Board of Directors, patrons, students, parents and all involved.
It is hard not to visit Hope stone and not feel love or joy in the atmosphere. When I think of hope stone I always remember how hard director Jane Weiner strives to brining art to at-risk children from all corner of Texas. She mad sure children had a place to call home aside from home and a place where learning the beauty of life through art is possible. In addition to this she also directs one of them most heart warming group of dancers that devote to carrying Janes love and feeling on stage. Hope Stone truly is a home and a place were humans can be truly human.
My son is new this year and is really enjoying learning to play the guitar. The teachers encourage him and he feels that they really care. Thank you so much
The teachers here are fantastic and very good about getting the kids excited about the arts. Several kids from my daughters school go here with her and they all adore it!
Hopestone has been a wonderful addition to our program at Krause RTC. We are a facility that serves 65 teenagers from child protective services and the juvenile department of probation. So many of our kids are gifted in the arts but have never had oppurtunities to learn and grow in this area. Hopestone helps to expand their horizons, strengthen their skills, and gives them something positive to cling to in times of struggle. What they do is described best in the words of one of our 15 year old boys who participates in dance. "At the start of class I was frustrated, but now that its over I feel my negative feelings have been erased and replaced by positive ones" Thank you for supporting our kids! Krause Children's Center Katy, TX
Hope Stone says yes. My son has autism. He has a severe speech delay and trouble with motor skills, but he has the heart of an artist. He gets to dance, act, make music and make friends at Hope Stone because they accept everyone. There are a few children that don't have learning differences who go to school with him and are also in his dance class. I know that their getting to see him at Hope Stone makes them more accepting of him at school because they've seen him shine there.
I love Hope Center because it's like a family. Hope Center's staff and visitors bond over a common passion: dance! I loved last year's production of "Village of Waltz." It was incredible - etherial, magical, soothing, thrilling. It was magnificently choreographed and executed. I love dancing with Hope Center so much that I travel from Clear Lake to class on the weekends! Thanks for doing what you do!
The warm, inviting atmosphere, the talented and patient teachers, then great kids programs, and amazing resident dance compnay...this is one of the best organizations in Houston HANDS DOWN.
Hope Stone is a wonderful place to dance, act, move, laugh, and cry - you can be your true self. The organization offers classes for children and adults (even seasoned adults) as well as providing rehearsal space and housing an awesome dance company.
I am so impressed by all that Hope Stone Inc has to offer. Creativity and positive energy overflows through music and dance. Looking in on the classes for children I could see how much fun they all are having. I had the opportunity to work with Jane and hear about the close connection she has with all of her students and their parents. Hope Stone offers great classes for adults as well. Jane is wonderful and Hope Stone is a special place.
Quality instruction reaching children who otherwise wouldn't be exposed to the arts is what I love about Hope Stone. The children are exposed to a creative environment that takes pride in teaching expression of one's self through dance. Jane's high energy level is definitely contageous!
Hope Stone's Kid's Play Gala had 60 kids on stage for 60 minutes to a sold-out audience! Hope Stone Rocks!!
Hope Stone is a fabulous, family friendly environment and it offers classes of all types to all types. The teachers they have on staff are incredible and really care about the well being of each young professional, student, retired dancer, etc. I love every moment I spend at the Hope Center everyone is very friendly, it's a great learning environment and everyone there is like a big family... And they are really helping me to further my career :)
The fact that Hope Stone, Inc. is able to offer art, music, theater, and dance classes to students FREE OF CHARGE is amazing. These young people are experiencing all of life's best lessons: how to get along with others, the best place to put extra energy, the benefits of a cathartic outlet, and the joy of keeping your heart, mind, body, and soul healthy!!
Hope Stone provides an amazing space as well as amazing teachers to help transform children's lives! I have been witness to the maturing, increase in self-esteem, and overall happiness of the children that go to Hope Stone and work with the instructors there. The amount of love Jane and her staff have for these children and adolescents is incredible! Thanks so much Hope Stone for transforming my life!
Hope Stone is the ideal setting for my daughter. The staff are working artists who share their skills, passion for their art, and most importantly their work ethic with students. While learning their art and having fun young students begin to understand that their is a component of hard work and perseverance that is required.
The Kids Play program at Hope Stone has been fantastic for my child who has been attending for several years. Being part of the program has given her confidence and grace. Without the scholarship opportunities there is no way we would be able to participate.
For the past six months I have been working as an intern at Hope Stone Inc. and I feel so blessed to have found the opportunity to work with such a wonderful organization. At Hope Stone, the people are warm, caring, passionate and incredibly hard working. From the very first day I began helping out, I felt welcomed and enthusiastic to begin helping out. It's so wonderful to know that an organization like Hope Stone exists to bring the arts to kids in the Houston Area, while supporting dancers and creating/presenting beautiful dances with the company.
I have been part of the Hope Stone family for several years now, and feel blessed to have these wonderful people and this amazing organization in my life.
This program is heart-felt, and world-class, bridging art and community ! Jane's passion and persuasion has changed the life of many youth; if anyone doubts the influence and meaning of art in daily life, visit Hope Stone!
Jane Weiner had a vision to bring arts to both at risk children and the community at large. Hope Stone reaches out to young children as well as troubled teens. I was involved with the yoga program for teens. It was amazing to watch them come out of their shells. The classes benefit young children as well. But Hope Stone also performs original dance material, filling a much needed gap in Houston's arts horizon.Thank you Jane, and Anell, her amazing sidekick who makes it all happen.
Hope Stone is a great organization with skilled teachers and mentors providing arts education to "at-risk" children. It is a safe place where kids can come to learn, and explore their creative abilities giving them a wonderful outlet for expressing themselves.
I have attended yoga classes over the past several years at Hope Stone Inc., as well as attended ballet classes before that. The quality of instruction is excellent; the environment is always high quality; teachers and staff who work and volunteer there are professional AND fun to work with. Classes offered change over time, so there is a steady variety of classes to choose from...as well as the popular favorites that so many students enjoy.
I have found Hope Stone to be a wonderful organization that brings the Arts to the community by providing programs for all ages.
Hope Stone Inc provides a wonderful atmosphere for young peaple to explore the arts in their after school program as well as providing an assortment of adult classes in dance and fitness. Hope Stone Inc also takes the art of dance to schools within the community. I especially appreciate their work with the young people at Krouse Children's Center. They are enriching their lives by introducing them to the art of dance. Keep up the good work and hope that you may grow to touch the lives of more young people in our community.
Jane asked me to join the Hope Stone family about 12 years ago and here I sit today. That in itself should say enough!
The freshest place in Houston for dance, for kids, for movement, for theater, for ART! Excellence in all they do, and they hug you as well. Jane Weiner and the Hope Stone Dance Company are brillant each time they take the stage. The Kid's Play program is outstanding and supports at-risk kids as well.
I have taken ballet, modern dance, yamuna body rolling, pilates, and yoga at hope stone. It's a supportive community with great teachers who really care about you. I always look forward to attending classes there. The performances they put on are, of course, also wonderful. They bring so much to the Houston dance community.
My daughter is really enjoying her time at Hope Stone. Jane Weiner has developed a strong program to meet the children at their level. And in the end, pulls off a fantastic "show" so they all feel very good about their experience.
Magnificient organization fun well by Ms. Weiner. The dancers are amazing and their contribution to the art community in Houston is undeniable! Truly a service organization!
Hope Stone has personally brought so much art to my self and my family. Where can you go as a 40 year old who has not taken ballet in 24 years and be comfortable dancing with ex principal ballerinas? Hope Center... Where can a 12 year old boy go to learn photography and art, on a scholarship, and have a teacher that propels his self-esteem to the stars? Kids Play through Hope Stone...Who places on stage an unbelievable group of dancers and musicians, somehow highlighting each individual talent to create a masterpiece of art? Hope Stone. The organization , with Jane Weiner at the helm, is a true gem in the Texas art scene. Now that I live in London, it is one of the things about Houston I miss the most.
Jane Weiner of Hope Stone Inc. and Hope Stone Dance Company has been a source of inspiration for me personally and professionally. The residency program for emerging choreographers called Hopewerks gave me a chance to rediscover what I love and gave me the push I needed to branch out on my own. In addition, the intern program offers artists who work hard but cant always afford dance classes a great opportunity to work in exchange for affordable classes. Hope proves time and again to be a place I enjoy spending time at and challenging myself as an artist.
My children have had the extraordinary opportunity to take classes at Hope Stone. As their mom, there is nothing better then watching their creativity blossom under the tutelage of the phenominal teaching staff at Hope Stone. To be able to learn from professionals in dance, acting, and music alongside peers from all over Houston is a unique situation. The fact that EVERYONE is nice is amazing! I appreciate the diversity, the scholarships and that Hope Stone is a working creative studio making art with kids, and adults. It's a vibrant atmosphere in which all are included.
Hope Stone Inc is a combination of dance, overall wellness, spreading of art, community, and goodness. I have been involved with Hope Stone since 2004 and have loved every second. I have taken dance class, been involved behind the scenes and dance performances, seen performances, volunteered, interned at the office and continue to promote the goals of the organization. Not only does Hope Stone offer dance class, Hope promotes growth through dance and community awareness. By sharing the word to the young, those at risk of life without art, Hope Stone spreads the power of movement one person at a time.
Knowing Jane Weiner's sense of groundedness in personality, movement, and inter-relations, when I was coming back to her dance studio after 5 years of not dancing professionally I felt so reasurred in body, mind, and soul. After hearing other dancers in the community talk about the accepting environment and then committing to see my own needs as an artist come to life, I instantly acted on what I considered a safe risk. I was welcomed and my artistic spirit rekindled. With increasing competition in the arts and performance in America, people of all ages and arts need a place to go that is safe and supportive not critical and demanding. We are apt to listen to sick fools who think tongue lashing is the way to increase talent and that the superstar is the only star; this is our greatest misfortune as a society. Artists change society for the better when they have a healthy body, mind, and strong spirit. Hopestone is a beacon of light in a dark as dark can be artist's world. Hopestone also encourages cross-cultural and multi-disciplinary art education which is what our youth need today; they are so eager, we need to support them...all of us will be held accountable for what we do and do not do...Hopestone and Jane Weiner are setting a great example and I think they should be rewarded for their intention and efforts. If you are wondering if this is really true my only response is: experience it for yourself or create/find an environment near you...I am sure HopeStone would be glad to help.
Hope Stone is an extradoniary organization that allows children and adults from all walks of life to experince the arts. I have had the honor and pleasure to see and learn from the wonderful dancers/instructors at Hope. This organization is an asset the Arts Community.
Hope Stone is an amazing organization dedicated to helping promote the arts for young people. As an educator at the Aldine Independent School District, Hope Stone arranged for free concert tickets to it's annual performance. Many of these students had never seen a professional dance performance. Staff from Hope Stone also came to teach at the school's summer intensive, and welcomed these students to Master Classes held at the Hope Stone Studio. Ms. Jane Weiner's capacity to share her art and vision, and welcome all to her facility make this organization unique in it's outreach. Several of the students who attended these events are currently dancing at the college level, and have been inspired and motivated by vision and power of Hope Stone Inc, and it's director.
i have danced since i was three years old, but after college i got away from it. after that, finding a challenging yet WELCOMING adult dance class became really difficult. until i found hope stone... every time i walk in there, i not only feel like part of a family, but i feel confident and like a real dancer. as long as you have the passion for dance and community, hope stone is the perfect studio, no matter your age or dance level. it's simply the best.
Hope Stone and Jane Weiner have had a positive influence on my career and artisitc direction. This unique organization helps each child mold into a strong and creative individual. I want to be just like HOPE STONE!
I have had the opportunity to work with Hope Stone in Houston and have to say that this is a First Class Organization. Setting the gold standard for other organizations who look to make a difference in their community. Highly recommended.
Hope Stone is a haven for all ages. My mother, who is 82, has been doing Tai Chi at the studio twice a week for a year and the experience has given her renewed strength, balance, and confidence. Mom was also asked to participate in the company's onstage performance, and now she can waltz too.
hope stone is love hope stone is equality hope stone is home it makes us feel part of a community - it is professionalism and respect - freedom of expression with conscience - it's waltz and rap - young teachers learning to teach the love for creative movements to a toddler - dogs hanging out - big joe and his body symbolizing perfection - structure and imagination - cereal boxes as donation - real musicians alive playing congas - our communitarian food in the kitchen - the neighborhood as our gang - adolescents thinking about climate change - older citizens mixed with the company dancers - kids exposed to professional mise en scenes - partnerships with other texan organizations who share our style of living - and jane weiner / see it to believe it - bellisimo regalo - proud of being part of it - una experiencia a replicar !
Hope Stone is lead by one of the most giving woman I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. She has a way of making everyone she deals with feel special. That quality permeates her organization! Jane and Hope Stone Inc. work tirelessly to enable children with a stronger sense of self worth and appreciation for art. Hope Stone is also a sanctuary for us adults to go to for art and revitalizing. I can offer no constructive feedback other than I hope you have the funding the stay around for a long time.
Every experience I've had with Hope Stone has been fantastic. Their adult classes are excellent and the work they do with under served children is amazing. Director Jane Weiner has a clear vision of an arts center that welcomes everyone to learn.
I am a current Board Member for Hope Stone Inc. I am constantly inspired & awe struck by the creativity & energy of all the individuals who come together for this organization. The are bright, talented, energetic & truly have a passion for what they do!!
Hope Stone rocks. Everything is a joy at Hope Stone. 5 Stars! Doesn't matter if you are a child, adult or senior....Hope Stone has something for everyone. They are the TAPAS dance studio. Barbara Bears-Gadbois
Hope Stone Inc. is an inspiration to so many people in so many way. Adults and kids alike benefit from the generous arts education services provided by this organization. As well, Hope Stone Dance touches so many people in so many ways with their professional modern dance performances.
Hope Stone is a remarkably encouraging environment for kids to learn about performance arts alongside professional performance artists. The teachers are genuinely passionate about sharing their love for music and dance and the written word. Kids learn that they are artists too, and wow, you should see how they shine with enthusiasm and blossoming self-esteem!
I have known Jane Weiner, director and "energizer bunny" for Hope Stone for about 15 years. Jane has brought vision, creativity, love, inspiration and "hope" to all who are touched by her. Hope Stone is a place of refuge, joy and enduring inspiration and fun for all who enter, young and old. I have personally benefited from Pilates, yoga, gyrotronoic, and yamana ball classes in her studio. The instructors who grace Hope Stone are all incredibly talented and knowledgeable in their particular areas. I know that Jane is an inspiration to all who desire to help others, whether it be through adult fitness classes or working with children in the many programs offered.
Hope Stone is an incredible organization that not only brings joy to the community but helps to make communities by uniting those who love to support the arts! The staff is hard working and the company puts on brilliant performances.
Hope Stone is amazing! Their dance performances are innovative and impactful. Their teachers are caring and well trained in their technique. The kids bloom in this environment that fosters creativity and curiosity. It is the real deal and an organization that any parent would love for their child to be a part of.
Hope Stone is creative combination of all the things Jane Weiner loves: children and all people, actually; dance and all arts, actually, plus lots of philanthropy and community service. For adults, there are classes in a broad range of dance forms and movement with the very finest teachers. There is "Parent & Me" and "KP Tinies" for very young children where they are allowed to use their imagination to express themselves through movement and learn share and wait their turns. For old kids there is "Kids Play" and "KP Teens" for which at-risk kids pay no tuition. Here the self-expression continues in the safe and loving environment which Jane cultivates because she believes that "every child is an at-risk child." In fact, everyone at Hope Stone, no matter what their age or reason for being there, feels when they enter the door, that they are at home.
I am a former professional dancer who takes ballet classes at Hope Stone. I continue to be impressed with the organization and Jane Weiner, its director. Each time I walk into the Hope Stone studios, I enter a world where everyone is friendly, welcoming, encouraging, and inclusive. The dance world can be very intimidating and during the course of my career, I have never found an environment as warm as Hope Stone. When class is over, I literally don’t want to leave. Hope Stone has an incredibly talented team of instructors who take a genuine interest in the students. When I watch the teachers interact with the children in Kids Play, I am absolutely amazed at the level of patience, compassion, and encouragement given. The children love their Hope Stone experience. I see the delight in their eyes when they arrive. Each child is treated as if he/she is special. Not only do the children have a blast, but they leave with a renewed sense of self-worth. It is a joy to watch these children as their personalities explode and their spirits soar. Through its programs, Hope Stone has fostered an environment where everyone flourishes regardless of age, race, ability, socio-economic background, etc. I have seen only positive results in my own dancing since attending classes there. I am appreciative that Jane continues to strive for higher standards each and every day. The results of her efforts are evident in the quality of the facilities, instruction, productions, and overall growth. Hope Stone has definitely raised the bar in the promotion of arts and culture in the Houston.
Hope Stone is making difference in childrens' lives (and those who are part their lives and to those that give to Hope Stone as well)...giving them purpose, self-esteem, confidence, safe-haven and...lest we forget, ART! These are invaluable to young people whose lives are often fragile and complicated. Making a positive difference in their lives makes a positive difference in the community. Amen to that.
Our children have been involved with Hope Stone for 5 years. The creative growth that I have seen in both of them is inspiring. Jane Weiner and her amazing staff have helped opened their bodies, minds and hearts to world where creative expression and passion thrive.
Hope Stone is a wonderful community for kids & adults to nourish their soul and access the arts! I always see smiling faces at Hope Stone...no matter if its an adult ballet class, the Kids Play kids rehearsing or if I'm lucky enough to be there when the company is in rehearsals, its a good place. This past fall ('09) at the "The Village of Waltz" performance was an example of how the arts can effect childrens lives. I've never been in a room where there were hundreds of kids in a theatre and they were quietly transfixed by the performance on stage. Afterwards, the conversations & reviews overheard were priceless. By the way...with the support of generous contributions, it was possible for these children to come to the theatre, experience a live professional dance company and understand the opportunities available to them at no cost. The Hope Stone teachers, kids, dancers & the staff offer the rest of us/me the chance to be a part of something wonderful. Maybe, you might consider contributing or joining us? Who doesn't like to smile?
I have been involved with Hope Stone for a number of years, both on their Board and as an adult student of ballet. This has got to be the most welcoming, nurturing arts organization in the region. What other dance company donates an entire section of their main performance each year free to kids who might never otherwise attend an arts/dance performance?
Hope Stone is a gem! It is an excellent arts institute and provides an empowering atmosphere for children/youth, offering dancing, drumming, musical theater. Teachers are very talented artists who work well with children. Classes are given in a non-competitive environment that encourages diversity and enhances self-confidence and self-esteem. The children LOVE to attend Hope Stone classes and the performances are "superb"!
