Review for Food & Water Watch, Washington, DC, USA
Food & Water Watch came into my life when i started opposing a proposed oil pipeline in my neighborhood. They partnered with Sierra in supporting us and when the Sierra lead person left, Matt Smith of F&WW became our main source of support. Without Matt's experience and expertise and untiring efforts we could never have been successful in stopping this pipeline. He lead our meetings, gave us good advice, especially on organizing and NJ politics, helped us all learn new skills and made connections with many others around the area with whom we partnered successfully.
Now we are engaged in a similar fight to stop new gas-fired power plants and once again Matt is leading our efforts while making room for me to tackle issues and take initiatives.
F&WW remains focused on the key causes of climate change and water pollution and takes strong proactive action such as getting elected officials to oppose fossil fuel developments, while at the same time working hard to influence these same people to support renewable energy programs. They are one of the most effective organizations i have seen in terms of building grass roots support through door to door outreach.
